If you’re seeing green growth, dark streaks or moss spreading across your shingles, it’s easy to assume the roof is done. In many cases, though, roof cleaning and moss removal can restore its appearance and help protect it without jumping straight to a full replacement.
The key distinction is whether the roof is structurally sound. If the underlying shingles and structure are fine and the issue is mainly organic growth, a proper soft-wash cleaning is usually the more cost-effective first step — replacement can wait.
That said, we’re exterior cleaners, not licensed roof inspectors. If an assessment turns up signs that a roof may need a professional inspection before cleaning, we’ll say so rather than clean over a problem that needs a different kind of attention.
